The difference between raw silk and ripe silk:
Raw silk: Silk that has been spun from a silkworm cocoon without undergoing degumming treatment. It retains the sericin around the silk.
Mature silk: The silk obtained by refining raw silk to remove most of the sericin.
Specification description:
D - is an indicator that represents the thickness of the silk thread. The larger the number, the thicker the silk thread.
Grades - Divided from high to low into grades 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A, A, B, C, D, E, F, etc. Grade 6A is the highest quality raw silk.
Number of Strands - Refers to how many single filaments are combined to form a single strand, usually represented by "/". For example, 20/22D, 2, indicates that it is made up of two 20/22D monofilaments twisted together.
Twist - Refers to the number of times a thread is twisted per unit length, measured in "twist/m. It can be divided into untwisted, weak twisted, strong twisted, etc., which will affect the style of the fabric. For example, 40/44D, 1, 4A, 120T, which is a single 40/44 denier filament with a grade of 4A and a twist of 120 twists per meter.
Example of expression about raw silk: 20/22D, 2, 6A. Interpretation: High quality raw silk of grade 6A, made up of 2 strands of 20/22 denier monofilaments.
There are two examples of expressions about ripe silk:
20/22D， Mature silk (twisted for easy dyeing and manual operation), interpretation: Mature silk refined from 20/22D raw silk.
40/44D, Dyed ripe silk (tube packaging), interpretation: The ripe silk refined and dyed from 40/44D raw silk is rolled in a tube packaging form (suitable for mechanized weaving).
