Hemispherical heads
Hemispherical heads achieve the highest pressure rating, with a depth half of the diameter. However, this optimal shape requires fabrication from multiple petals/gores
—the number determined by size and plate thickness making them the most expensive type to form.
Flat heads
A flat head features a flat surface with a knuckled (radiused) outer edge. It is typically used as a base for vertical atmospheric storage tanks or as a lid for smaller vessels.
Conical Head
A conical head is used in pressure vessels and tanks to facilitate the flow of solids or liquids, typically installed at the bottom for drainage or as a transition section between different diameters.
