IS200VCMHIH2BEE Two-way communication/link between I/O boards
Function description
The IS200VCMIH2BEE is a communication board developed by GE. It is part of the Mark VI control system. The VCMI acts as a link between the central controller and the I/O board in the system architecture, ensuring seamless two-way communication. In addition, it acts as a gateway to the system control network IONet for easy integration into the broader control infrastructure. The VCMI is responsible for managing data transfer, protocol conversion, fault detection and synchronization, and plays a key role in enabling efficient and reliable operation of industrial control systems. Its functions include interpreting commands, adjusting timing, and ensuring the integrity of data exchange to support real-time control and monitoring tasks that are critical to system performance and reliability.
Communication capability
Internal communication: Internal communication with the I/O board in the rack for easy data transfer and control functions.
IONet connectivity: Use the IONet communication network to connect to other VCMI boards and external modules. IONet is the backbone network for communication between devices in the system.
Ethernet ports: Depending on the system configuration, the VCMI board may have one or three Ethernet ports. The single-port version is for simplex systems, while the three-port version is for TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) setups.
System architecture
Simplex system: In a simplex configuration, a single control module is connected to one or more interface modules using a single cable. The VCMI board facilitates the communication between these modules and ensures the coordinated operation of the system.
TMR system: In a TMR setup, a VCMI board with three Ethernet ports communicates with three different I/O channels (Rx, Sx, and Tx) and connects to multiple control modules. This configuration enhances fault tolerance and system reliability.
Fault-tolerant mechanism
The Board implemented the SIFT voting mechanism to enhance the robustness of the system. The input data from each IONet connection is carried out in a voting process within each VCMI board (R, S, and T).
The results of these votes are then transmitted to the control signal database in the controller via the VME bus, thus ensuring consistency and reliability of data processing.
