MVI56-MBP Network Interface Module
The Prosoft MVI56-MBP is a Modbus Plus Communication Module. The module is a support device to Allen-Bradley’s ControlLogix PLCs.
It helps in interfacing these processors with other devices that use Modbus Plus protocol. The MVI56-MBP supports both master and
slave devices, enabling easy connection to Modicon processors and many other Modbus devices. It acts as a gateway between the
ControlLogix backplane and the Modbus Plus network. The device has memory with 4000 words register, with the main function to
exchange data between the PLC and the Modbus Plus network in an asynchronous way. Additionally, the MVI56-MBP can be configured as
a slave to PLCs that must read or write data from the module’s memory. It is generally used to connect two brands of industrial
networks, for example, the connection of Allen-Bradley PLCs to Modicon PLCs, and the linking of relays, drives, power monitor
equipment, and similar Modbus Plus speaking devices to the ControlLogix backplanes.
The MVI56-MBP Modbus Plus Communication Module has a rechargeable Lithium Vanadium battery that is able to backup data inside of
this module for 21 days. It backups CMOS and the real-time clock. The battery should be charged for twenty hours when the module
is installed. It is engineered to last for the life of the module. If the device is more than 21 days without power supply, the
module will return to the default BIOS settings.
