ASTM A312 is a standard specification for seamless, welded, and heavily cold-worked austenitic stainless steel pipes. This norm covers several grades of stainless steel pipes for high-temperature and general corrosive service. It is widely used in the chemical processing, petrochemical, food processing, and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in construction and other applications.
The ASTM A312 standard covers pipes with diameters ranging from 1/8″ to 30″ and thicknesses from SCH 5S to SCH XXS. The pipes can be either seamless or welded and can be produced using several manufacturing processes, such as hot finished, cold finished, or hot rolled.
The standard requires that the pipes be made of austenitic stainless steel, which is a type of steel that contains high levels of nickel and chromium. This gives the steel excellent corrosion resistance and makes it suitable for use in harsh environments, such as those found in the chemical and petrochemical industries.

Cold-rolled steel pipe.
Cold-rolled steel is a more finished product that not only looks nicer, having a more finished surface but is also more durable than is hot-rolled steel. This steel is created by further processing hot-rolled steel.
