MVR Distillation Technology
Overview
The MVR (Mechanical Vapor Recompression) distillation system compresses the low-temperature vapor from the top of the distillation column using a steam compressor, increasing its temperature and pressure. The compressed vapor then enters the reboiler, where it condenses and transfers heat to the bottom liquid, thus maintaining the energy balance of the distillation process solely through mechanical compression.
By consuming a small amount of electrical energy, the system elevates the thermal value of the overhead vapor and efficiently recovers its latent heat. This significantly reduces the need for additional heat at the column bottom and minimizes the cooling load at the top, achieving a highly energy-efficient operation.
Working Principle
The working fluid circulates in a closed-loop system, continuously transitioning between gaseous and liquid phases. During phase changes, it absorbs and releases heat:
• Released heat is used to heat and evaporate the feed solution.
• Absorbed heat is taken from the condensation of secondary vapor generated during evaporation.
This dual use of energy enables efficient concentration of the feed, evaporation of solvents, and solvent recovery.
Key Features
• Minimal Steam Requirement
The system requires only a small amount of industrial steam or electric heating for startup. Once running, no additional steam is needed—evaporation is powered entirely by electricity.
• Low-Temperature Operation
The system operates in a temperature range of 40–65°C, adjustable based on the properties of the feed. The heat source temperature stays below 95°C, making it ideal for heat-sensitive materials.
• Fully Automated Control
Equipped with a PLC-based automatic control system, the process features automated feeding, discharge, in-line density monitoring, temperature control, vacuum regulation, and more—ensuring low labor intensity and high operational reliability.
• Customizable
Specifications and configurations can be tailored to individual user needs and process requirements.
Application Fields
MVR distillation systems are widely used in:
• Pharmaceuticals
• Food and beverage
• Fine chemicals
• Biotechnology
• Environmental protection
They are especially suited for organic solvent recovery, particularly flammable and volatile solvents such as: Methanol, Ethanol, Ethyl acetate, Acetone, N-hexane and etc.
The system can also be applied to evaporation and concentration of aqueous solutions.
