Safety and Operating Guidelines for Liquid Nitrogen Tanks
1. Personal Protective Measures
Wear Protective Gear: Always wear cryogenic gloves (thick cotton or specialized low-temperature gloves) and safety goggles to prevent severe frostbite from direct contact with liquid nitrogen.
Avoid Skin Exposure: Never touch liquid nitrogen or cryogenic racks with bare hands to prevent frostbite.
Wear a Lab Coat: Long-sleeve lab coats are recommended to prevent injuries from splashing liquid nitrogen.
2. Liquid Nitrogen Filling Guidelines
Pre-cooling: For first-time use, fill the tank with one-third of its total capacity to avoid damage from sudden temperature changes.
Control Filling Level: Do not exceed 80% of the container's total capacity to ensure proper sealing with the neck plug.
Regular Refills: Keep track of the liquid nitrogen level and refill before it no longer covers the samples to maintain their viability.
3. Sample Storage and Management
Limit Lid Opening Time: Open the tank lid for as short a time as possible to reduce nitrogen evaporation and temperature fluctuations.
Check Sample Tube Seals: Ensure the tubes are properly sealed to prevent liquid nitrogen from entering, which could cause rupture.
Organize Samples: Store different samples in designated sections to avoid cross-contamination and ensure they are clearly labeled for easy retrieval.
