Product Description
Safety standard EN 50604/EN 50604 for secondary lithium batteries of light electric vehicles, mandatory time
Content introduction:
The European Standards Committee released the new standard EN 15194:2017+A1:2023 for electric power-assisted bicycles on August 23, 2023, and it will be enforced from August 23, 2025. The battery test requirements of the new standard deleted the reference standard EN 62133, and the new version of EN 50604-1 was used as the only judgment standard for the safety requirements of EPAC batteries. EN 50604-1 is the safety requirement standard for secondary lithium batteries applicable to light electric vehicles (Light electric vehicles).
Scope of application:
Light electric vehicles include all electric drive vehicles of categories L1 to L7 defined by ECE/TR ANS-WP29-78r2e, as well as all electric drive or assisted bicycles, including plug-in hybrid road vehicles (PHEVs), all or part of which are powered by an onboard rechargeable energy storage system (RESS). According to the voltage of the battery pack, there are currently two categories:
a) Class A: Maximum operating voltage ≤30V ac (rms) or ≤60V dc.
b) Class B: Maximum operating voltage (>30 and ≤1000) V ac (rms) or (>60 and ≤1500) V dc. According to the standard requirements, the battery management system should be able to protect the battery system from damage, monitor and extend its service life, maintain functional status, and be able to evaluate and control the battery cells, battery packs, and batteries so that they operate under the conditions specified by the battery cell manufacturer.

Test standard: EN 50604-1:2016+A1:2021
Test items:
Mechanical test: vibration test, mechanical shock, drop test, thermoplastic materials exposed to sunlight;
Climate test: condensation test, thermal shock cycle;
Simulation test: extrusion test, water immersion test, over-temperature condition test, low-temperature condition test;
Electrical test: short circuit test;
System function test: overcharge protection, over-discharge protection, thermal control/cooling failure, deep discharge protection.
Test samples: 26 battery packs (13 of which are not glued or sealed to facilitate the arrangement of temperature points of the battery cells) + 1 set of empty shells (excluding internal battery cells) + 1 set of BMS
Cycle: 9-10 weeks
Validity period: updated according to standards
Whether factory inspection is required: No
Required information:
1. Case application form;
2. Battery and battery pack specifications, CDF safety key parts list, battery pack circuit diagram and layout diagram, etc.;
3. Other information will be confirmed by engineers based on actual products after the case is opened
