ABS/HIPS Sheet Equipment

ABS/HIPS sheet is processed through the extruder extrusion moulding method. ABS/HIPS sheet extrusion moulding refers to the process of conveying, compressing, melting and plasticising the ABS/HIPS raw material between the rotating screw and barrel of the extruder, and then quantitatively passing it through the mouth die at the head of the extruder to produce continuous ABS/HIPS sheet.

The barrel and screw are the core parts of the extruder. The barrel is a cylindrical container containing the screw. The friction and shear force generated during the rotation of the screw melts the raw material, which is then transported through the barrel to the head section. The internal environment of the barrel is determined by high temperatures, high pressures and the rather high surface velocities of the material transported inside the barrel. As a result, the extruder is subject to wear and tear of the barrel and screw during operation, which can degrade the performance of the extruder.

Most barrels of extruders are made of nitride-treated steel or synthetic metals. Nitriding is a technology that enhances the wear resistance of metals, and synthetic metal barrels are those that use an alloy on the inside to enhance their resistance to wear and corrosion, and are made of a structure on the outside. Bimetallic barrels are more durable than nitride-treated steel. The main materials currently used in bimetallic barrels are tungsten carbide composites, chromium-modified-boron iron and nickel alloys.
