Propylene glycol, appearance properties, colorless viscous stable water-absorbing liquid, almost tasteless and odorless. Solubility, miscible with water, can be miscible in ethanol, ether, most organic solvents. Melting point -60 °C, boiling point 187 °C(lit.), density 1.036 g/mL at 25 °C(lit.).
Product application
1. Used as gas chromatography fixing liquid, solvent, antifreeze agent, plasticizer and dehydrating agent
2. Used as resin, plasticizer, surfactant, emulsifier and demulsifier raw materials, can also be used as antifreeze and heat carrier
3. Propylene glycol is an intermediate of the fungicide phenacetoconazole.
4. As a solvent, food additives such as preservatives, pigments, antioxidants that are difficult to dissolve in water can be dissolved in it, and then added to food; It has strong hygroscopic properties and has moisturizing and antifreezing effects on food. China stipulates that it can be used for pastries, and the maximum usage is 3.0g/kg.

Propylene glycol is an important raw material of unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, the amount of this aspect accounts for about 45% of the total consumption of propylene glycol, this unsaturated polyester is widely used in surface coatings and reinforced plastics. Propylene glycol is viscous and hygroscopic, and non-toxic, so it is widely used as hygroscopic agents, antifreeze agents, lubricants and solvents in the food and cosmetic industry. In the food industry, propylene glycol reacts with fatty acids to form propylene glycol fatty acid ester, which is mainly used as food emulsifier. Propylene glycol is an excellent solvent for flavoring and coloring. Because propylene glycol has good miscibility with various spices, it is also used as a solvent and softener for cosmetics. Propylene glycol is also used as a tobacco humidifier, anti-mold agent, food processing equipment lubricating oil and food marking ink solvent. The aqueous solution of propylene glycol is an effective antifreeze agent.
