Mistake 1: Connecting electromagnetic switches and contacts in the output circuit of the frequency converter

In practical applications, some situations require the use of contactors for frequency converter switching, such as switching to power frequency operation in case of frequency conversion failure, or when using the one driven two mode, one motor malfunctions and the frequency converter turns to drag another motor, etc. So many users may think that adding electromagnetic switches and contactors to the output circuit of the frequency converter is a standard configuration and a safe way to disconnect the power supply. In fact, this approach has significant hidden dangers.

Disadvantage: When the frequency converter is still running, the contactor opens first and suddenly interrupts the load. The surge current will cause the overcurrent protection to act, which will have a certain impact on the main circuit of the rectifier and inverter. Seriously, it may even cause damage to the IGBT output module of the frequency converter. At the same time, when carrying an inductive motor load, the energy of the inductive magnetic field cannot be quickly released, which will generate high voltage and damage the insulation of the motor and connecting cables.

Response strategy: Connect the output side of the frequency converter directly to the motor cable, and the normal start and stop of the motor can be achieved by triggering the frequency converter control terminal, achieving the effect of soft start and soft stop. If a contactor must be used on the output side of the variable frequency governor, necessary control interlocking must be implemented between the output of the variable frequency governor and the action of the contactor to ensure that the contactor can only operate when there is no output from the variable frequency governor.
