Here are some of the main applications of anti-ozone wax in rubber soles:
Protection against ozone cracking: Ozone is a gas that can cause rubber to crack when exposed to it over time. Adding anti-ozone wax to rubber soles helps prevent cracks and breaks from long-term ozone exposure.
Improves flexibility: Anti-ozone wax acts as a plasticizer in rubber. It helps maintain the softness and flexibility of rubber soles even after prolonged use and bending of the footwear. This reduces brittleness.
Reduces surface cracking: The wax migrates to the surface of rubber over time and forms a micro-thin protective film. This prevents tiny surface cracks from developing and spreading further into the rubber.
Water resistance: Anti-ozone wax can improve the water resistance of rubber footwear to some extent. It reduces the ability of water to penetrate into small cracks in the rubber.
Abrasion resistance: The wax surface film also enhances the abrasion resistance of rubber soles, making them last longer before wearing out from various types of friction.
Adhesion properties: Anti-ozone wax can be added as a component during rubber compounding. It promotes better adhesion between different rubber layers and materials in sole construction.
So in shoes and boots, anti-ozone wax extends the lifespan and durability of rubber soles against factors like ozone, water, flexibility issues and general wear & tear. This improves the longevity and performance of footwear.
