In the past, soap and soda ash were used to wash hair. Synthetic detergents have been widely used since the 1960s. Synthetic detergent has good wetting, emulsification, decontamination, solubilization and foaming properties in washing, and is better than soap in resisting hard water and less damage to fibers at high temperature. In order to prevent alkali damage to wool, non-ionic synthetic detergent can be used and salt, sodium sulfate as auxiliary, called neutral wool washing. When using synthetic detergent to wash hair, adding ammonium sulfate as auxiliary, called ammonium alkali washing hair. Ammonium sulfate plays a neutralizing role in the washing solution to prevent alkali damage to wool, and the ammonia generated can saponify fatty acids, which is conducive to the durability of the washing effect. In wool washing solution, lotion wetted wool, to dissolve and sheep sweat and soluble impurities, lanolin free fatty acid in the saponification, saponification of lanolin, alcohol and not dissolve in water were surrounded by a lotion and adsorption dirt gently, under the effect of temperature and mechanical split, broken, emulsion become colloidal particle separation with wool, steady suspended in solution, so as to achieve the aim of clean wool.
