According to the second paragraph of Article 10 of China's Trademark Law, "place names in Administrative division above the county level or foreign place names known to the public shall not be used as trademarks.
However, place names have other meanings or are part of collective trademarks or Certification mark; Registered trademarks using place names shall continue to be valid This places considerable legal restrictions on the use of place names as trademarks.
