The Bently Nevada 3500/20 125744-02 Rack Interface Module (RIM) is the primary interface of the 3500 rack. It supports proprietary protocols for configuring racks and retrieving mechanical information. The RIM must be located in slot 1 of the rack (next to the power supply).

RIM supports compatible Bently Nevada external communication processors such as TDXnet, TDIX, and DDIX. Although RIM provides certain functions common to the entire rack, it is not a part of the critical monitoring path and has no impact on the normal operation of the entire monitoring system. Each rack requires one RIM.

Bently Nevada 3500/20 125744-02 requires the TMR version of RIM for Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) applications in the 3500 system. In addition to all standard RIM functions, TMR RIM also performs "monitoring channel comparison". The 3500 TMR configuration implements monitor voting using the settings specified in the monitor options.

Bently Nevada 3500/20 125744-02 uses this method and TMR RIM continuously compares three (3) redundant monitors. If the TMR RIM detects that the information from one of the monitors is no longer within the percentage range of the configured information from the other two monitors, it will flag the monitor as an error and place the event in the system event list.
