CMC can be used in the ceramic body as a reinforcer, excipient, and plasticizer. It can facilitate body shaping, CMC can also be used in glazing pulp and fancy glaze plays a role of thickening, binding, and dispersion.

It can raise surface tension of the glaze pulp.

It can stabilize the physical and chemical properties of glaze formulation.

As excipient of blank material to increase the mud plasticity, and make easy for body shaping.
