The MTU 2000 & 4000 series diesel engine (with a power of more than 500 kW) is developed and manufactured by the German engine turbine alliance Friedrich Schiffen GmbH (MTU) in 1997, including eight cylinders, twelve cylinders, sixteen cylinders and ten Five different models of eight cylinders and twenty cylinders, the output power range is from 270KW to 2720KW. The design and development of these two four-stroke engines officially provide versatile, reliable and economical products to meet today's and tomorrow's environmental protection and reduce emissions.
The fuel consumption and all emission metrics of the two new series of engines represent the state of the art. Longer service intervals, significantly simplified maintenance procedures, and a practical on-site control system will greatly reduce operating costs. The engine is highly adaptable and can be used in all applications from fixed to mobile.
In addition to the form factor, stroke and fuel injection system, both engine series are designed with a 90° V-type arrangement, a rugged grey cast iron cylinder block with oil return holes and water channels, and four on the cylinder head. The valve, the camshaft built in the middle of the fuselage controls the valve to open and close.
The standard booster system is a single stage system consisting of two exhaust gas turbochargers and intercoolers.
The fuel injection system monitoring and engine speed control are provided by a new electronic control system that can be extended from standard monitoring equipment to almost all functions, including fault diagnosis and crew management. Through real-time measurements, the electronic system provides accurate information on engine usage and operating life at any time, providing users with a cost management system that adapts to individual applications and will improve the economics of the power plant.

(1) Advanced and perfect engine electronic management system – MDEC system
The MTU2000 series engine uses the MDEC electronic management system, including electronic control unit (ECU), sensors and fault displays. Sensors distributed in various parts of the engine collect engine operating parameters and signals and transmit them to the ECU. After processing by the internal setting program, the ECU controls the fuel supply system to inject the oil according to the optimal parameters under the working conditions, thus ensuring that the engine has Optimum performance (minimum fuel consumption and minimum emissions) and operational reliability. MDEC also has the function of a digital electronic governor to ensure that the dynamic and static electrical performance of the generator set is at an optimal level. MDEC has protection and alarm functions such as high water temperature, low oil pressure, low water level, high oil temperature, low water level and overspeed. Fault code display: Real-time monitoring of diesel engine operation, providing effective self-diagnosis.
(2) Advanced fuel injection system – common rail fuel injection System
It adopts single fuel injection pump, short high pressure oil circuit, closed oil circuit circulation and electronically controlled fuel injector. Smooth operation, good speed stability; low emissions, low fuel consumption in all power ranges, superior acceleration performance and load characteristics; high fuel temperature does not affect power.
(3) Advanced and perfect turbocharging technology and cooling technology – sequential turbocharger and dual-circuit cooling water circulation system
The advanced dual-circuit cooling water circulation system keeps the engine in thermal equilibrium and ensures high engine reliability.

Mercedes-Benz MTU12V2000, 16V2000, 18V2000, 12V4000, 16V4000, etc. all adopt advanced EFI technology, and MDEC, or ADEC computer control system (referred to as computer board) manages various technical parameters.
If the EFI engine fails, you can check the fault code display for the first time. There is a fault code display on it. It is usually composed of 4 digits. The first letter is A, B, C or D, and the last three digits are numbers, such as A213, A202. B 313, etc., you can write down the fault code and contact our maintenance service department for the meaning of the fault code.
The fault code can only be used as a reference and cannot be accurately displayed. Since the data of the EFI engine is fully computer controlled, it is necessary to use the special EFI detection software to check the specific accurate fault.
The company can provide on-site inspection service, and connect the detection computer to the detection data interface of the MDEC or ADEC computer board through a dedicated data connection cable. In general, the fault data can be read in the field.
However, when the power of the computer board is damaged or the data port is damaged, the data cannot be connected or cannot be read. You need to remove the computer board and bring it back to the company for disassembly detection.
