Cowden steel, or atmospheric corrosion resistant steel, is a low-alloy steel series between ordinary steel and stainless steel. Weathering steel is made of ordinary carbon steel with a small amount of copper, nickel and other corrosion resistant elements.The weatherability is 2~8 times of ordinary carbon steel, coating is 1.5~10 times of ordinary carbon steel.At the same time, it has the characteristics of rust resistance, corrosion resistance, prolonging life, reducing thickness and consumption, saving labor and energy.Weathering steel is mainly used in railway, vehicles, Bridges, towers and other steel structures exposed to the atmosphere for a long time.Used for manufacturing containers, railway vehicles, oil derrick, harbor construction, oil production platform and chemical and petroleum equipment containing hydrogen sulfide corrosion medium containers and other structural components.
Its characteristics include: alloy composition and weight percentage content of weathering steel: C: 0.12 ~ 0.21, Si: 0.2 ~ 2.0, Mn: 0.7 ~ 2.0, S ≤0.036, P≤0.034, Cu: 0.10 ~ 0.40, Al<0.2, and the rest are Fe and trace impurities.By alloying Cu, Mn, Si and Al, and simply adjusting the content of some elements of ordinary low carbon steel (Q235 steel), the economic weathering steel with good atmospheric corrosion resistance and comprehensive mechanical properties can be produced without changing the production process of Q235 steel.
Compared with ordinary carbon steel, weathering steel has better corrosion resistance in atmosphere.Compared with stainless steel, weathering steel only trace alloy elements, such as phosphorus, copper, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, niobium, vanadium, titanium, alloy elements total only accounted for a few percent, and not like stainless steel, reach ten percent, so the price is relatively low.
