Sodium Bisulphite is white crystalline powder. It smells of sulfur dioxide. Have an unpleasant taste. Exposure to air loses some of the sulfur dioxide, which oxidizes to sulfates. Soluble in 3.5 parts cold water, 2 parts boiling water, about 70 parts ethanol, the aqueous solution is acidic. Melting point decomposition. Relative density 1.48. Low toxicity, median lethal dose (rat, oral) 2000mg/kg. It's stimulating. Commercial products often contain various proportions of heavy sodium sulfite (Na2S2O5).

Usage:

1. Used for bleaching cotton fabric and organic matter; 

2. Used as reducing agent in dyestuff, paper making, leather making, chemical synthesis and other industries; 

3. Pharmaceutical industry for the production of analgin and aminopyrine intermediates;
