What is glass wool?
Glass wool is an insulating material made from fiberglass, arranged into a texture similar to wool.
Glass wool is produced in rolls, boards and pipes, with different thermal and mechanical properties.
Manufacturing process
A process similar to baking a cake, the glass wool is “cooked” at high temperatures matching perfectly the shape of the header and the evacuated tubes.
After the fusion of a mixture of natural sand and recycled glass at 1,450 C, the glass that is produced is converted into fibers. Under the mechanical strength of
centrifugal the product is obtained by a binder that “cements” the fibers together. This fiber mat is then heated to around 200 C to give it strength and stability. The final stage involves cutting the wool and packing it in rolls, boards or pipes under very
high pressure in order to easy transport and storage.
Uses
Glass wool is used to thermal insulation, cold insulation, sound absorbing and fire resistance for building and construction industry.
It can be a loose fill material, blown into attics, or, together with an active binder sprayed on structures that can be used to insulation of cavity walls, steel structures,
ceilings, roofs, curtain walls as well as airconditioning ducts. It is also used to insulate piping and for soundproofing.
Glass wool features
Grade A non-flammable.
Weak alkaline (PH7.5-8.0) with centrifugal technology don’t lead to rust of steel.
Superior moisture resistance with <0.2% moisture absorption.
Good rebound even fold.
High tear strength yet readily cut with a sharp blade.
