Titanium is a challenging material to machine. It has a tendency to work harden whilst being machined and specialist machining techniques, contrary to convention, need to be employed in order to achieve a part to specification. Unlike other \"hard\" materials, where a shallow depth of cut and slow feeds need to be used, 
Titanium demands an aggressive depth of cut with closely regulated speeds to avoid the cutter tip deflecting and \"rubbing\" on the part surface. This \"rubbing\" is what causes work hardening, and anyone who has worked with titanium before will be familiar with the sight of smoke, sparks and horrible sounds being generated from a part that is being incorrectly machined. 
High HP machinery, good quality bearings, and a knowledge of titanium machining come togeher at THM to ensure good quality parts from this exotic material. 
The most commonly machined titanium here at THM is Grade 5, otherwise known as Ti-6AL-4V
