• IBM's patented Multi-Path Architecture with logical libraries support for single or multiserver attachment of homogeneous or heterogeneous systems or applications

The IBM System Storage TS3310 Tape Library is designed to offer high performance and capacity to help address the heavy demands of tape storage. The TS3310 Tape Library is highly modular with scalability varying from the base library 5U control module to additional expansion units of 9U height each. This automated tape library incorporates high- performance IBM LTO Ultrium Tape Drives for the midrange to enterprise open systems environment. Tape cartridge physical capacity is up to 1.5 TB native physical capacity (3.0 TB with 2:1 compression) with the IBM LTO Ultrium 5 1.5 TB Data Cartridge (for use only with Ultrium 5 format drives), and drive performance is up to 140 MB/second native data transfer rate with the IBM LTO Ultrium 5 Tape Drives. IBM LTO Ultrium 5 Tape Drives can read and write original LTO Ultrium 4 data cartridges and read LTO Ultrium 3 data cartridges. The LTO Ultrium 5 Tape Drives in the TS3310 Tape Library also support LTO Ultrium 5 WORM cartridges.

You can tailor the TS3310 Tape Library to match system physical capacity and performance needs using up to two IBM LTO Ultrium Tape Drives in the TS3310 L5B Base Library and up to four Ultrium Tape Drives in each TS3310 E9U Tape Module. This will give you enhanced functions such as fast transfer of data, simultaneous backup, concurrent read/write operations, and fault tolerance.

The TS3310 Tape Library models will support LTO Ultrium 5 Tape Drives with 8-Gbps switched fabric Fibre Channel attachment for connection to a wide spectrum of open system servers.

In addition to LTO Ultrium 5 drive features, the TS3310 is designed to provide:

The TS3310 Tape Library is suitable for use in network attached storage implementations, such as backups and mass storage archives where multiterabyte capacities are required. Storage and tape management for the TS3310 is provided by software such as Tivoli Storage Manager and other compatible software offerings.

Each TS3310 Tape Library has an operator control panel with a touchscreen display on the front of the machine, providing status information and menu options. From this panel, the operator can initiate actions, such as moving and loading tape cartridges or invoking diagnostics. A key lock provides front door locking.

The TS3310 is designed for stand-alone operation, but an optional rack-mounting kit allows installation into an ANSI/EIA standard 19-inch rack configurations of 23U or greater require rack mount installation. If you require extra redundancy in their storage operations, an additional DC power supply option is available. A Remote Manager Unit is designed to allow network control of the TS3310 Tape Library operations.

Tape cartridges with bar code labels are required for use in the TS3310 Tape Library. The IBM LTO Ultrium 5 Tape Drive supports the Ultrium 1.5 TB Data Cartridges as well as Ultrium 800 GB and Ultrium 400 GB Data Cartridges.
