From the birthplace of soft-iron forging
Forging is one of the methods used to manufacture metal.
Metal is heated to the verge of melting, at which point it is beaten and pressure applied,
crushing any vacant space within the metal and refining the crystal structure.
As the metal is molded into the desired shape the orientation of the crystals is realigned, enhancing its strength.
This manufacturing technique has been used since ancient times to make items
such as Japanese swords and matchlock gun barrels.
Techniques have advanced over time as a result of efforts to raise quality.
Iron's fiber structure is not broken by the process of plastic deformation,
leaving a continuous fiber flow (*see reference at end of page).
The result is a close, compact structure.
Blow holes (cavities) are much less likely to occur than in casting.
The ability to make strong parts is characteristic of forging.
In the modern age, forging techniques are used in the manufacture of metal parts
which absolutely must not break, such as train wheels or axles, and small engine parts
for vehicles or aircraft.
Kyoei Golf is continuing this tradition, replacing swords with irons,
with an intense focus on Japanese-made single piece forging.
By making each piece individually we make irons where you can feel the transmission
of power and the true quality of the material.
