Description of VMS

Imported high-efficiency VMS RAILROAD VEHICLE

 

The VMS (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) can be used on road or rail (UIC-60 type) and transport all kind of track permanent materials and light duty equipment’s.

 

 

 

The vehicle is composed by:

 

  • One frame with suspension
  • Two steering drive axles
  • One power pack with automatic fire extinguisher
  • Two driver cabins (each one for one driving sense)
  • A handling crane

The equipment’s are:

 

  • One rail section transportation equipment
  • One FST (Floating Slab Track) transportation equipment
  • One various cargo loading platform

The empty vehicle’s deadweight is about 14 ton, the gross vehicle weight is 34 ton

Vehicle Composition

 

The welded frame has been made of steel plates and standard steel beams. It has been designed to receive:

 

  • 2 Driver cabs, one on each side.
  • 1 Power pack for the transmission’s and auxiliary tools power supply and the electric cabinet.
  • Rail sections supports
  • 1 Handling crane capacity 9 Tm 

 

It can be used for the transportation and handling of all kind of light equipment.

 

Axles

 

The vehicle has two types of axles:

 

  • Front rigid axle
  • Rear rocking axle with integrated rubber cushioning to limit rolling of the machine

 

 

 

The axles are mounted with 12.00 R24 rubber cushioned tyre. Each axle has its dynamic service brake and static parking brake in order to respect the current legislations.

 

Cabin

 

A driver cabin on each side of the machine guarantee easy driving in both directions. The driver will get in the right cabin and valid the cabin selection using the unique key.

 

 

 

Note: The reverse march remains possible but at reduced speed.

 

 

 

Both cabins are “one-seater”, free open access on both sides, steel structure including the roof with a polycarbonate windscreen, screen wiper and protection screen. Getting in & out can easily be done from each side at any time.

 

Inside you can find the following equipment:

 

  • Cushioned driver seat

  • Dashboard panel
  • Engine control display
  • Service brake pedal
  • Accelerator pedal
  • Dead-man’s pedal

 

 

 

On the dashboard, the following controls shall be provided:

 

  • Emergency brake push button

  • Parking brake selector with integrated control lamp
  • Cabin selector key and control lamp
  • Driving sense FWD- REV selector
  • Control lamps for ERROR and FIRE detection
  • Rear axle joystick command
  • Rear axle alignment control lamps

 

Dead Man System

 

This system has been installed in both cabins.

 

It obliges the operator to indicate his vigilance, using the dead-man’s pedal each 10 seconds.

 

If the operator doesn’t’ respect the 10 seconds delay, the buzzer will go on. If the operators still don’t react, within 10 more seconds, the vehicle will slow down and stop.

 

The same way, if the dead-man’s pedal remains activated continuously, the vehicle will also stop.

 

Electric circuit

The electric circuit can be divided into:

  1. Main Power Circuit:
  • Starter 24V / 4kW
  • Pre-heater air inlet: 24V / 3kW
  • Alternator capacity 24V / 55 Amp
  • Starter batteries: 2x 12V / 105 Ah – 450 Amp.
  • « FENWICK » connector capacity 160 Amp.
  • Electric hydraulic power pack cap. 15 ltr/min @ 125 bars for parking brake release and/or crane operating in case of emergency.

 

Control Circuit :

  • Combustion engine controller by BUS-CAN J1939 and EMR2
  • Drive controller with Smart Drive EASY control box (one per cabin par cabin) through BUS-CAN-J1939 protocol connection;

Main control of the rest of the machine by central PLC (in electric cabinet) and one I/O slave interface cart in each cabin, communicating together through BUS-CAN Open protocol connection.

Safety Features

 

Loader Crane Height Limiter

 


       To assist the work of operators in yards and along railway lines, cranes are fitted with special devices aimed above all at preventing accidental contact with overhead power lines (chain links).

 

Other Supplementary Devices

 

Management of crane slewing rotation with dual proximity sensor, to avoid use of the crane in areas where there are trains in transit, and key selector to determine the working side.

 

Cranes operating on rail vehicles have to be equipped with additional safety devices for rotation and height limitation not required by cranes mounted on truck in order to be in compliance with the “operational safety” standard in presence of double-track lines or electric traction line commonly referred to as “catenary.”

 

 

Country Of Manufacture

 

The VMS rail/road vehicle will be entirely manufactured and assembled in Singapore in accordance with dimensional drawings pre-approved by the Purchaser.
