ASSEMBLY AND OPERATING 

INSTALLING A SANDING DISC

1.Firmly press the sanding disc (1) onto the hook & loop pad (2) (Fig. 1).

2.To remove the sanding disc (1), simply peel the disc away from the hook & loop pad (2) (Fig. 2).

SPEED CONTROL SWITCH

To run the electric wood sanders at its slowest speed, turn the speed control switch wheel (1) to (Fig. 3). To run the sander at higher speeds, turn the speed control switch wheel to a higher number on the wheel. The random orbital sander will be running at full speed when the wheel is set at “MAX”.

ON/OFF SWITCH

To turn the sander ON, squeeze the trigger switch (1) Fig. 4) To turn the sander OFF, release the trigger switch.

LOCK-ON BUTTON

Your electric wood sanders is equipped with a lock-on feature, which is convenient when continuous sanding for extended periods of time is required (Fig. 4). To lock the switch ON, depress the trigger switch (1), push in and hold the lock-on button (2) located at the left side of the handle, then release the trigger. Release the lock-on button and your sander will continue running. To turn the sander OFF, depress and release the trigger switch to release lock.

CONNECT THE DUST BOX ASSEMBLY TO THE SANDER

Slide the dust box connector (1) into the dust port (2) in the rear of the sander (Fig. 5).

When the dust box connector is pressed fully into the dust port, turn the dust box approximately 15° clockwise to lock the dust bag onto the random orbital sander.

CLEANING THE DUST BOX

Remove the dust box assembly (1) from the dust port (Fig. 6).

Remove the dust box assembly from the dust port by rotating it COUNTER CLOCKWISE approximately 15° and pulling it out of the dust port. Carefully shake the dust box assembly with the end cap opening (2) pointing downward to remove the sanding dust. Reinstall the dust box assembly as noted in Fig 5.

INSTALLING THE VACUUM ADAPTOR

To reduce the amount of loose sawdust produced while sanding, a workshop vacuum can be attached to the sander by using the vacuum adapter supplied with the sander.

To install the vacuum adapter (1), align the two locking tabs (2) with the matching slots (3) in the rear of the sander housing. Firmly push the adapter into place (Fig. 7). Lock the adapter in place by turning it clockwise.

SANDING DISC SELECTION

Make sure you select the correct size and style of sanding disc for your electric wood sanders. The correct disc will:

Have a diameter of 5"

Have a row of eight 3/8" holes that match the hole pattern in the sander base

Have a backing for use with the hook & loop disc attachment system.

Selecting the correct grit and type of sandpaper is extremely important in achieving a high quality sanded finish. Aluminum oxide, silicon carbide and other synthetic abrasives are best for power sanding. Natural abrasives such as flint and garnet are too soft for economical use in power sanding.

SANDING

Clamp or otherwise secure your workpiece to prevent it from moving under the electric wood sanders while being sanded. Secure the workpiece in a vice if possible.

Set the speed control to the desired speed. Higher speeds tend to cut faster and produce a smoother finish. Place the sander on the workpiece so the complete sanding disc surface is in contact with the workpiece. Turn the sander ON by pressing on the right hand side of the ON/OFF switch. Move the sander slowly over the workpiece making successive passes in parallel lines, circles or crosswise movements. Because the random orbital motion of the sanding disc moves in tiny circles, it is not necessary to move the sander with the grain or in the same direction for successive passes (Fig. 8).

Upon completion of the sanding operation, turn sander OFF by pressing on the left side of the ON/OFF switch. Wait until the sanding disc comes to a complete stop before removing it from the workpiece.
