Most sawmills and secondary wood processors have little difficulty finding buyers of the chips, sawdust, and shavings they produce. As a bedding for poultry pine is ideal as pine shavings retain their form and last longer than hardwood types which tend to splinter or powder fairly quickly.

Poultry Producers and Equestrian Product Distributors have traditionally battled to get hold of decent bedding of consistent quality year round. Wood chips, shavings and sawdust from pine, gum and meranti and other woods are the most commonly used in animal bedding and litter products. Some of these products have secondary markets as compost.
