How to use a hand operated grease gun?

Riding mowers, garden tillers and tractors all have bearings and multiple moving parts that rotate or roll against other surfaces, creating friction. The friction between rubbing surfaces generates heat and causes wear. Grease and oil provide a barrier of sorts between these surfaces. The oil from the grease reduces friction in gears and bearings, resulting in less heat generation and, ultimately, less wear. Manual, lever-style grease guns are the most common applicators. Using the manufacturer's recommended grease is as important to the proper operation of a grease gun as applying the lubricant to the rotating component. NLGI No.2 lithium is the most common grease used on home and garden equipment.
