sodium silicate is white solid that is readily soluble in water ,producing an alkyl soultion.it is one of a number or related compounds which includes sodium orthosilicate and sodium pyrosilicate all are glassy ,colorless(transparent) and dissolve in water ,sodium silicate is stable in neutral and alkaline solutions and in acidic solutions ,the silications reacts with hydrogen ions to form silicic acid ,which when heated and roasted form of  Silica Gel,A hard ,glassy substance
