Product Description

What do we mean by “Glare” on a rear view mirror?
When driving at night, and another vehicle approaches from the rear, a driver may experience an
blinding flash or “glare” from his rear-view mirror. The headlights from other vehicles be temporarily
blinding or distracting, causing multiple traffic fatalities each year.
Glare can cause“visual staying phenomenon”.
As the rear view mirror reflects the head and tail lights of other vehicles, It can cause the driver
discomfort or distraction. While the light shines into the rear-view mirror, it causes the driver to focus
on that Glare and not on the road ahead.
Light is transmitted to the optic nerve and forms a visual image. Scientists have found that when glare
creates a visual image, the image does not disappear immediately when the glare is removed. This is
called the “visual staying phenomenon”.
So after the glare disappears from rear view mirror it may take from 4-8 seconds for your eyes to
recover.
Glare makes the pupil contract in the human eye.
Glare will cause the pupil to contract and become smaller. When this happens the road ahead will
appear darker and less defined. It can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 1 full minute for the pupil and
retina to fully recover.

Glare leads to slower response times.
The effects of glare have been proven to slow down human response times.
Conclusions:
1. the “visual Staying Phenomenon interferes with safe driving.
2. Glare contracts the pupil making it harder to see the road.
3. Glare can slow response time and causes distraction and fatigue to the human brain.
These 3 factors will delay the drivers response time about 1.5 seconds. At a speed of 100 Km per hour
glare can cause the braking distance to increase from 43 meters to about 80 meters. This additional
braking time greatly increases the probability of an accident.
This is a dangerous phenomenon that occurs every day and causes thousands of accidents every year.
We have to find solutions to avoid the accidents that Glare causes.

How does an auto-dimming mirror work?
The auto- dimming mirror from Germid can solve the issue of glare. One the auto-dimming mirror
detects high glare, it will automatically reduce the brightness from 63% to 6% within seconds. This can
greatly improve the ability of a driver to safely operate the vehicle at night. When the glare disappears
the brightness automatically increases to 63% again, giving the driver a clear rear view of the vehicle at
all times.

The distinction between a traditional rear-view mirror and an auto-dimming rear view mirror.
Many vehicle are equipped with a manual-dimming rear-view mirror. It can be distracting and
dangerous for a driver to have to constantly manually operate this function while driving at night.
By comparison an auto-dimming mirror can automatically detect ambient light and adjust a mirrors
brightness without a drivers input making them safer and more convenient.

Types of auto-dimming rear-view mirrors.
There are two types of fillers traditionally used in rear view mirrors. A solid filler or a liquid filler type.
The liquid filled type of rear-view mirror usually works well for the first two years, but the electrolyte
used in manufacturing losses stability after that and mirror will start to yellow, and not function. Whats
more, this type of mirror also has a good chance of weeping. The liquid filled rear-view mirror has
already been phased out by premier auto makers.
Many aftermarket rear-view mirror manufacturers produce unlicensed versions of the solid filled rearview
mirror, and this may cause warranty problems, and problems with car dealers.

Quality, safety, and intellectual property.
The Germid rear-view mirror utilizes the most advanced SPM-TSR technology, which ensures our
products of the highest quality and dependability. The Glass in our mirrors will not yellow,or weep,
even after decades of use. SPM-TSR technology has been adopted by major car manufacturers the
world over.
The patents for the most advanced technology for monochromic mirrors are held by American
companies, but Germid has been licensed to sell their mirrors with this technology all over the world.
Germid has also been certified by many national electronics and safety testing organizations, and
Automobile manufacturers.
Germid will offer you the safest, highest quality, licensed rear-view mirrors.

FAQ

*What is auto adjusting brightness?
The brightness(only for the 4.3"display screen, not for the entire mirror) will change automatically according to the environment light. When the environment light become stronger, the screen brightness will increase accordingly to ensure more distinct image in strong light. When the environment light become weaker, the screen brightness will decrease in order to protect eye against being stimulated due to over-brightness of the screen.
