Heat Treatment process
Annealing → the workpiece is heated to a suitable temperature,with different incubation times,depending on the material and size of the workpiece , and then slow cooling (the cooling speed is the slowest),so as to make the internal organization of the metal achieve equal or at the equilibrium state, to obtain a good process properties and performance, or prepare for further hardening.
Normalizing → the workpiece is heated to a suitable temperature in the air cooled. The effect of normalizing is similar to annealing , but the former process more finely tissue obtained, generally used to improve the cutting performance of the work piece. Sometimes normalizing also can be used for a number of workpiece demanding not high as a final heat treatment.
Hardening → Heating work piece to a certain temperature.Cooling rapidly at water, oil, or other inorganic salts, organic aqueous solution etc. quenching medium. After quenching,steel work piece getting hard , but also brittle.
Tempering → In order to reduce the brittleness of the steel, make the hardened heat preservation, a suitable temperature, higher than room temperature and lower than 710 ℃ , and then cooling.This process is called tempering.
Annealing, normalizing, hardening and tempering is the overall heat treatment of the "four fire", which is closely related to the quenching and tempering, often used in conjunction, are indispensable.
"Four fire" with different heating temperatures and cooling methods,it turns out different heat treatment processes. In order to obtain a certain degree of strength and toughness, sometimes combine quenching and tempering process,called quenched and tempered.
