Casrbon steel cut wire shot is produced by cutting wire into lengths equal to the wire diameter (we call them pellets). Quality is assured by control of the chemical and physical properties inherent in the wire and accurate sizing to length. Every piece is 100% solid. Cut-wire is available in an “as-cut” (cylindrical) form as well as in a conditioned (spherical) shape in a number of sizes from .012 (.30 mm) to .125 (3.17 mm). Cut-wire shot applications include: blasting, cleaning, tumbling and vibratory finishing.

Carbon steel cut wire shot is available in regular spring wire grades which yield a hardness of 45 to 55HRC and in special high carbon grades 55 to 60 HRC.

Cut-wire shot is a natural for shot blasting because the blasting process requires a round, whole bodied shot that resists rapid change in size and weight so it delivers constant intensity. This quality is assured in cut-wire shot because the wire from which it has been produced is heat treated and cold drawn to achieve hardness and homogeneity. This, together with the balanced chemical properties and complete solidity of every piece, insure that cut-wire shot will not fracture in use. It wears down gradually and lives for many cycles in a blasting operation. Cut-wire shot maintains its blasting intensity longer than other types of shot and thus reduces cost. Tests have shown cut-wire-blasted parts have a greater fatigue life than the same part blasted with cast shot. This demonstrates that media uniformity is extremely critical for blasting.
