Property: heat resistance and sinterability

Main chemical composition is Al2O3 and SiO2. Impurity includes alkali, alkaline-earth and iron, titanium, etc and some organic matters. The oxides help the melt and could reduce the refractoriness of material. The lower the content of impurity, especially the Na2O+K2O, the higher the refractoriness is. The closer the ratio of Al2O3/3SiO2 to the theoretical value(A/S=0.85), the higher the purity will be. If the ratio of A/S is higher, the refractoriness will be higher, the sintering range will be wider. The refractoriness of good flint clay could be 1750℃.

Calcined flint clay has properties of volume stability, high strength, low water absorption, etc. Bulk density, porosity, water-absorption and burnt shrinkage rate are the indexes that used to measure the degree of sintering.

Place of origin: mainly in Shandong province, especially Wangcun area. The flint clay of this area has magnetism with good whiteness and brightness.

Application: high-grade refractory production, ceramic manufacture, aluminosilicate refractory fiber production, military industry, etc.

Specification and test index: the chemical composition of flint clay is stable, the export grade is as follows:

(1)Al2O3≥44%;  Fe2O3≤1.5%;  B.D.≥2.45 g/cm3

(2)Al2O3≥45%;  Fe2O3≤1.2%;  B.D.≥2.50 g/cm3

(3)Al2O3≥46%;  Fe2O3≤1.2%;  B.D.≥2.55-2.58 g/cm3

K2O+Na2O+CaO+MgO: <0.5-1.0%
