Overview of Hammer Mill
The hammer mill crushes by the collisions between high-speed hammer and material, and the hammer mill has the features of simple structure, high reduction ratio, high efficiency, etc.
The PC series hammer mill is developed for both dry and wet crushing of brittle, medium-hard materials for the mining, cement, coal, metallurgic material, construction material, road building, and petroleum & chemical industries.
Working Principle of Hammer Mill
In the hammer mill, the motor drives the rotor to rotate at a high speed through the belt, and on the rotor there are series of hammers. When the materials get into the working area of hammers, the rotating hammers with high rotation speed are crushing them, the crushed products meeting the required size can be discharged by the outlet and become the final products, the large size products are brought back to the crushing area by the hammers for being re-crushed until they reached the required size

Rotor with hammers(also called hammer head)is the main working part of hammer crusher.
The rotor is composed of main shaft, disk, pin and hammer. Motor drives the rotor rotating at a high speed in the crushing cavity. Hammer head is the main wear parts. The quality of the hammer head influenced the crushing efficiency directly. In addition to hit, the hammer head is impacted by materials during the work. After such long-term repeated use, the hammer head will be damaged and the surface shape will be changed. At present most hammerheads of hammer crusher in China are made of high manganese steel. Materials enter into the machine from the upper feeding port, and is crushed under the blow, impact, shear, and grinding effect by the high speed movement of hammerhead. At the bottom of the rotor there is a sieve plate. Material smaller than the screen hole size in the crushed material is discharged from the sieve plate. And the rest which is bigger than the screen hole size will be intercepted on the sieve plate to be impacted and grinded. Finally discharged from the sieve plate.

How to judge the failure of the hammerhead
The surface and edge of hammerheads are not worn when they first put into production. Hammerheads mainly bear impact. Materials impact the hammerhead surface with the forward force so that the hammerhead appear deformation and bump. After the wear and tear, the bearing surface of hammerhead surface is decomposed. The opposite force of the hammerhead surface will produce impact force on the hammerhead. And the tangential force will put the cutting force on the hammerhead. This directly caused the decrease of impact force in the crushing process, the reduction of production efficiency, and the increase of the broken time. Therefore, it indicates that the service life of the hammerhead may be over once the hammer force transfers and the hammerhead abrasion action begin to change.
