Process Of Cavitations
The frequency beyond audible limit is called Ultrasonic Frequency. A normal frequency of 28kHz is converted to very high ultrasonic frequency. Transducers, bonded to the bottom or side of the tank convert this frequency into mechanical energy. High intensity Ultrasound in liquid creates high & low pressure zones. Under the influence of low pressure period, microscopic bubbles get formed in vacuum form. These bubbles get compressed & eventually collapse & burst. This process is called "Cavitation."
Cleaning Action
Collapse or implode of the cavities releases tremendous energy and produces an intense scrubbing action on immersing the aluminum cleaning machinesin the liquid, for cleaning. The scrubbing action created by cavitation dislodges particulates matter from the object surface. It is literally like having millions of microscopic bombs going off. The concussion of these bombs, blasts flux particles loose from the object , but without harming its surface. Cavitations is not a localized event. It permeates the entire tank of liquid. This is why ultrasonic pcb cleaners works so well with complex part geometry and small work pieces features. The scrubbing action is able to access even small recesses. The classic example of application is cleaning of SMT/Densely populated PC Boards.
