Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the wireless use of electromagnetic fields to transfer data, for the purposes of automatically identifying and tracking tags attached to objects. The tags contain electronically stored information. Some tags are powered byelectromagnetic induction from magnetic fields produced near the reader. Some types collect energy from the interrogating radio waves and act as a passive transponder.
Unlike a barcode, the tag does not necessarily need to be within line of sight of the reader, and may be embedded in the tracked object. Radio frequency identification (RFID) is one method for Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC).
RFID tags are used in many industries. An RFID tag attached to an automobile during production can be used to track its progress through the assembly line. Pharmaceuticals can be tracked through warehouses. Livestock and pets may have tags injected, allowing positive identification of the animal. Clothing tags. Jewellry anti-thief tags. Access control to buildings, parkings, hotel rooms, etc. | |||||||||||||||||
WHAT IS NFC? | |||||||||||||||||
NFC (near field communication) is a wireless technology which allows for the transfer data such as text or numbers between two NFC enable devices. Near-field communication devices operate at the same frequency (13.56 MHz) as HF RFID readers and tags.
The term NFC tag is commonly used for a passive NFC tag. Examples of passive NFC targs are NFC inlays, NFC stickers, NFC keyfobs, NFC wristbands, NFC cards and other converter NFC products.
NFC targs are very similar to a USB stick, except that they do not have to be plugged into a PC to transfer data. There is no battery inside of NFC tags.
They all have an integrated circuit (IC) and antennae inside of them. Data is transferred via this antennae. | |||||||||||||||||
