With very high magnetic properties, good corrosion resistance, and excellent thermal stability, Sm-Co magnets are considered as the premium choice for the most demanding motor applications which require high operation temperature. Their maximum working temperature can reach up to 350°C. Sm-Co magnets are brittle and must be machined with diamond tools prior to magnetization. There is no special coating required for surface protection due to excellent corrosion resistance capability. The cost for Sm-Co magnets is much higher than Nd-Fe-B magnets since the main raw material Sm is rare.
