How Solar Pool Heating System Works
Luxurious warm water from a free, inexhaustible source.
A solar swimming pool heater uses your existing pump to circulate the water in your pool through
the system. The process begins with an automatic control that senses any change in sunlight or water
temperature and relays this information to a control valve. The control valve then diverts or channels
the pool water to the collectors, when sufficient energy is available, or bypasses them when heat is
not needed.
Most solar pool heating systems include the following:
1.A solar collector — the device through which pool water is circulated to be heated by the sun
2.A filter — removes debris before water is pumped through the collector
3.A pump — circulates water through the filter and collector and back to the pool
4.A flow control valve —automatic or manual device that diverts pool water through the
solar collector.

When comparing pool heaters, it's important to know that while propane and gas heaters can offer a
lower initial investment, the cost of fuel needed to run them rapidly adds up season after season.
Propane is the most expensive type of system, followed by Natural gas (if its an option for your house)
and then electric resistance, which all incur monthly fuel costs.
