1.Q:Does the 360 degree nipple mean I can mount these to the side of a bucket - or does it mean the pin can be activated from a 360 angle?
A:They can be activated from all side when hanging straight up and down. If you mount on the sides I'm afraid you won't have the necessary pressure to hold the part they peck at sealed. They don't take much movement to get water out as the gravity would work against you if you mounted at a 90, so I'd say being on their side will make them leak.
2.Q:Would these work for chicks? Wonder how they would learn to use it, have you used this for chicks?
A:The chicks are very aware of their surroundings and are attracted to shiny things. They will naturally peck at them and will find that they are their source of water in no time.
3.Q:How high do the nipples need to be for chicks? How about for full grown chickens?
A:Just high enough so they have to reach up for the water. As they grow, keep raising it. It is easier for them to reach up then to try to bend down to get water. They are curious about the red color so doesn't take them long to figure out that is their water source.
