Detailed Description of High Pressure Boiler Tubes

High pressure boiler tubes are key pressure-bearing components for high-pressure and ultra-high pressure boilers, manufactured as seamless steel tubes. They operate long-term under working conditions of 450–650℃ and pressure ≥9.8MPa, featuring excellent creep resistance, high-temperature oxidation resistance, stable metallographic structure and reliable high-pressure sealing performance.

1. Applicable Standards

  • Domestic Standard: GB/T 5310-2023 (Implemented on April 1, 2024, replacing GB/T 5310-2017)

  • International Standards: ASTM A335 (P11/P12/P22/P91/P92), EN 10216-2, DIN 17175

2. Materials & Main Chemical Compositions (Common Grades)

  • 20G: Carbon steel. Working temperature ≤500℃, working pressure ≤10MPa. Mainly used for economizers and low-pressure headers.

  • 15CrMoG: Chromium-molybdenum steel (Cr ≈ 1%, Mo ≈ 0.5%). Working temperature ≤550℃, working pressure 16–25MPa. Applied for superheaters and reheaters.

  • 12Cr1MoVG: Chromium-molybdenum-vanadium steel (Cr ≈ 1.2%, Mo ≈ 0.3%, V ≈ 0.25%). Working temperature ≤580℃, working pressure 25–31.5MPa. Ideal for main steam pipes and reheaters of supercritical boilers.

  • P91/T91 (10Cr9Mo1VNb): 9%Cr-1%Mo-V-Nb alloy steel. Working temperature ≤620℃, used for ultra-supercritical boilers.

  • P92: 9%Cr-2%W-V-Nb alloy steel. Working temperature ≤650℃, widely adopted for main steam pipelines of ultra-supercritical boilers.

3. Specification Parameters (In accordance with GB/T 5310)

  • Outer Diameter: 16–630mm (Common sizes: 32/38/42/51/60/76/89/108/133/159/219/273/325)

  • Wall Thickness: 2.0–100mm. Heavy-wall tube: wall thickness ≥10% of outer diameter or ≥10mm

  • Length: 4–12m (Fixed length / Multiple length)

  • Dimension Tolerance: Outer diameter ±1%, wall thickness ±12.5% (High precision: ±10%)

  • Theoretical Weight Formula: W(kg/m) = 0.02466 × (Outer Diameter − Wall Thickness) × Wall Thickness

4. Production Process

  1. Smelting: Electric arc furnace + LF/VD refining to ensure high purity and low impurity content.

  2. Billet Making: Continuous casting round billet with low segregation.

  3. Piercing: Hot rolling piercing at 1100–1250℃.

  4. Tube Rolling: Hot rolling with ACC cooling (Grain size ≥ Grade 8) or cold rolling for high dimensional accuracy.

  5. Heat Treatment:

  • 20G: Normalizing at 900–930℃

  • 15CrMoG: Normalizing + Tempering (Normalizing: 920–950℃; Tempering: 680–720℃)

  • 12Cr1MoVG: Normalizing + Tempering (Normalizing: 950–980℃; Tempering: 720–760℃)

  • Finishing: Straightening, cropping, non-destructive testing, hydrostatic test, pickling & passivation, anti-rust oil coating.

    5.2 High-temperature Properties

    • Rupture Strength: 12Cr1MoVG ≥120MPa at 580℃ for 10⁵ hours

    • Creep Strength: ≥80MPa at creep rate of 10⁻⁵/h under 550℃

    • Oxidation Resistance: Oxidation rate ≤0.1mm/year at 580℃

    5.3 Technological Properties

    • Flattening test: No cracks

    • Flaring test: Flaring rate ≥12%

    • Bending test: No cracks after 180° bending

    5.4 100% Non-destructive Testing

    • Ultrasonic Testing (UT): Comply with GB/T 5777

    • Eddy Current Testing (ET): Comply with GB/T 7735

    • Hydrostatic Test: Calculated by formula P=2SR/D. Hold pressure for no less than 5 seconds without leakage.

    6. Main Applications

    • Power station boilers: Superheaters, reheaters, main steam pipes, connecting pipes, headers, economizers

    • Industrial boilers: High-pressure steam boilers, waste heat recovery boilers

    • Other fields: High temperature & high pressure reactors, heat exchangers, steam transmission pipelines

    7. Packaging & Marking

    • Packaging: Bundled (Each bundle ≤ 2 tons). Pipe ends equipped with protective caps, coated with anti-rust oil or passivation treated.

    • Marking: Marked with steel grade, specification, heat number, standard number, manufacturer logo and production date.

    • Quality Certificate: Including chemical composition, mechanical properties, NDT & hydrostatic test reports and heat treatment records.
