Hot-Rolled Steel Coil - Product Specification

1. Product Definition & Production Process

Hot-rolled steel coil, commonly known as hot coil, adopts continuous cast slab as raw material. The slab is heated to 1100–1300°C, then rolled into steel strip through roughing and finishing mills. The hot strip is cooled to the specified temperature by laminar cooling system and coiled by coiler. Finishing processes such as leveling, recoiling, slitting and shearing can be applied to produce finished products.

2. Main Specifications

  • Thickness: 1.2–25.4 mm (thin gauge: 1.2–6.0 mm; medium & heavy gauge: 6.0–25.4 mm)

  • Width: 800–2130 mm (common sizes: 900/1250/1500/1800/2000 mm)

  • Coil Weight: 15–32 tons, maximum ≤ 35 tons

  • Inner Diameter: 760 mm (standard), 850 mm (optional)

  • Dimensional Tolerance (GB/T 709-2019): Thickness ±0.15 mm; Width ±3 mm; Camber ≤50 mm per 10 meters

3. Steel Grades & Chemical Composition

Ordinary Carbon Steel (Q235B / SPHC)

  • Q235B: C ≤ 0.21%, Si ≤ 0.35%, Mn: 0.30–0.65%, S ≤ 0.045%, P ≤ 0.045%

  • SPHC (Stamping Grade): C ≤ 0.15%, Si ≤ 0.05%, Mn ≤ 0.60%, S ≤ 0.035%, P ≤ 0.035%

High Strength Low Alloy Steel (Q355B)

C ≤ 0.24%, Si ≤ 0.55%, Mn: 1.00–1.60%, S ≤ 0.045%, P ≤ 0.045%, with trace microalloys of Nb, V and Ti.

Automotive Structural Steel

6. Surface Quality & Product Features

  • Surface Condition: Hot rolled black surface with oxide scale. Free from cracks, inclusions and severe rust. Slight discoloration, indentations and pits are acceptable if they do not affect normal usage.

  • Key Features: High strength, good toughness, excellent weldability and formability. Lower cost compared with cold rolled steel coil, stable dimension and flatness.

8. Packaging & Delivery

  • Packaging: Horizontally bound, wrapped with anti-rust paper and plastic film, reinforced with steel bands and end protectors. Each coil is attached with a label marked with specification, steel grade, heat number, batch number, weight and production date.

  • Delivery Lead Time: 5–7 days, shipped from Tianjin Port

  • Transportation: Truck and sea freight. Keep goods dry and avoid collision during transit.

9. Advantages & Notes

  • Advantages: Cost-effective, strong processing adaptability, available for direct bending, stamping and welding. Can be used with original oxide scale or pickled for further cold rolling processing.

  • Notes: Oxide scale exists on the surface, so anti-rust coating or painting is recommended. Dimensional accuracy is lower than cold rolled steel coil, so cold rolled material is suggested for high-precision components.
