The grade of the steel consists of three parts: the Chinese Pinyin letter representing the yield strength, the yield strength value, and the quality grade symbol. For example:
Q420C. Among them:
Q - The first letter of the Chinese Pinyin for "yield" of the steel's yield strength;
420 - The yield strength value, with the unit of MPa;
C - The quality grade is Grade C (the grades are divided into A, B, C, D, E).
When the buyer requires the steel plate to have through-thickness properties, the symbol representing the through-thickness (Z-direction) performance level is added after the above-specified grade. For example: Q420CZ15.
