The container straddle carrier adopts a gantry frame structure, capable of straddling over containers and lifting them via a hydraulic lifting system equipped with a container spreader. Based on body structure types, they are classified into three categories:
Platform-less (shared structure for straddling, loading, and unloading).
Platform-equipped (shared structure for straddling, loading, and unloading).
Platform-equipped (dedicated structure for straddling, loading, and unloading).Currently, the platform-less type (with shared structure) is the most widely adopted.
Performance Parameters:The rated lifting capacity generally ranges from 30 to 120 tons, with some special-purpose carriers capable of lifting heavy containers exceeding 150 tons. It can control alignment errors within 5mm. Port-specific models are equipped with wide-base anti-slip tires, while warehouse-specific models feature a narrow-body design and a flexible steering system, allowing for rapid turning in confined spaces.
Functional Advantages:
High Efficiency: A single unit can complete 12-18 "Lifting - Transfer - Stacking" cycles per hour.
Flexibility: The all-wheel steering system provides a minimum turning radius of only 8-12 meters, enabling U-turns in passages as narrow as 6 meters.
Safety: Equipped with safety features such as overload protection systems, laser positioning, and inertial navigation. High-end models often include 360° panoramic monitoring and radar collision avoidance systems.
Application Scenarios:Primarily used in ports/terminals, logistics warehousing centers, and industrial manufacturing.
Ports: Facilitates the transition between "vessel unloading" and "stacking in the yard."
Logistics: Transfers containers directly from trucks to designated stack positions.
Industrial: Can be customized with special spreaders for handling specific types of containers.
Development Trends:The industry is trending towards larger scale and higher stacking capabilities (models capable of stacking 4-high are becoming more common). Lifting capacities are continuously improving (some reaching 50 tons+). Additionally, reliability has significantly increased while failure rates have dropped. Automation is also advancing, with nearly all modern container straddle carriers now equipped with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
