Saudi Energy Efficiency (EER) Certification
What is Saudi Energy Efficiency?
Saudi EER certification is a mandatory certification issued by the Saudi Standards Authority (SASO). Since 2010, Saudi Arabia has mandated energy efficiency labeling for certain electrical appliances imported into the Saudi market. Suppliers (manufacturers, importers, production plants, or their authorized representatives) who violate this regulation will bear all legal responsibilities arising therefrom.
On June 1, 2013, SASO announced the use of an online system for EER registration.
SASO announced the implementation of a new standard for air conditioners, SASO 2663/2012, effective August 4, 2013. From September 7, 2013, Saudi Customs will no longer recognize energy efficiency certificates based on the old standard SASO 2663/2007; air conditioners holding certificates based on the old standard will be unable to clear customs. Energy efficiency certificates and labels will include barcode anti-counterfeiting features to prevent products without certification from entering the country.
