Brazil ANATEL Certification Process and Testing Cycle
Brazil ANATEL Certification Process and Testing Cycle
What is ANATEL Certification?
Telecommunications products manufactured in Brazil or elsewhere require ANATEL certification before entering the Brazilian market. ANATEL certification primarily focuses on product safety and compliance with Brazilian telecommunications law.
ANATEL is the regulatory body for telecommunications equipment in Brazil, overseeing the entry of telecommunications and radio equipment into the Brazilian market. Before obtaining ANATEL formal approval, applicants must apply for a Declaration of Conformity (CoC) from an ANATEL-authorized certification assessment body, OCD (Designated Certification Organization). Only after preparing the necessary documents through OCD can the ANATEL certification application be submitted.
What is Required for Product Certification?
After confirming the product category, OCD will send a business proposal document. Upon accepting the proposal, the client must send the following documents to OCD:
● Product technical specifications;
● User manual
● External and internal photos of the product;
● ISO 9001;
● Basic customer information and product information;
● Some documents requiring signature, such as authorization letters, etc.
After these documents are sent, the lab begins testing the product. The certification process is complete when Anatel publishes its product's approval certificate and generates an approval number on the SGCH website.
How long does the certification process take?
The duration of the certification process can vary depending on factors such as:
Testing: Some products require additional testing or retesting;
Documentation: Documents are not sent on schedule.
However, typically, the process takes about two months: one month for certification and one month for approval.
What is the validity period of Anatel certification?
Product certifications are valid for 2 years and 3 years respectively. Products that have expired need to be recertified, but the cost is not the same; it only involves product documentation, visual inspection, confirmation fees, and certificate fees.
