What is the overhead line fault passage indicator (FPI)?

SNOVA Overhead line fault indicator is a device which provides visual or remote indication of fault in electrical distribution network. When a fault occurs，It can automatically detect whether the fault type is short circuit or ground fault. Then indicated by red mechanical flag and three ultra-bright blinking LEDs, which can be seen from 360º sight. The fault information and load current value can also be transmitted to the SCADA by 2G/3G/4G networks.

Why are FPI important in distribution networks？

How does the FPI work?

SNOVA fault indicator ,One fault passage indicator is usually clipped onto each phase. By placing the FPI ‘s at regular intervals along the line, it can identify faults in the downstream section from its point of installation by monitoring the electromagnetic field surrounding the conductor. When fault occurs, Indicator will detect the current character, though a complicated calculation, then judge if a fault occurs, and what the fault type is. At same time, FPI sense this condition, immediately gives the alarm on-site and remotely to SCADA system.

In the case of non-communicable type, the FPI will give alarm on-site by red mechanical flag and three ultra-bright blinking LEDs.

In the case of communicable type, the FPI gives alarm on-site as well as send the data to the SCADA system by 2G/3G/4G networks.
