BIMETALLIC THERMOMETERS OPERATING PRINCIPLE. The bimetallic thermometers are made of a stainless steel pipe, or brass pipe ( bulb) containing a bimetallic helical spiral welded at one end to the bottom of the pipe and on the other to a small driving shaft connected to a pointer. Temperature variations deform the bimetal: this deformation is transmitted to the pointer on the dial due to the shaft rotation.
