Description
Paraffin gauze dressing consists of a leno-weave fabric of cotton or cotton and viscose , which has been impregnated with yellow soft paraffin . The dressing is used as a primary wound contact layer and the paraffin is present to reduce the adherence of the product to the surface of a granulating wound . Two formulations of Paraffin Gauze Dressing are described in the British Pharmacopoeia : they differ in the weight of paraffin base present on the gauze .
1. Consists of leno-woven cotton : impregnated with soft paraffin
2. Dressing : used as a primary wound contact layer in the treatment of ulcers, burns and more
3. Can be also used as a transfer medium for skin during grafting
4. Wide-meshed gauze : promotes the drainage of exudate and the ventilation of wound areas
5. Neutral ointment base : provides the opportunity to apply additional wound-specific medication
6. Packing : 1pc/sterile package , Gamma sterilization
7. Available sizes : 5cm x 5cm , 7.5cm x 7.5cm , 10cm x 10cm , 10 x 30cm

Applications :

Indications :
Paraffin gauze dressing is used as a primary wound contact layer in the treatment of burns , ulcers , skin grafts (both donor and receptor sites) , and a variety of traumatic injuries .
Contra-indications :
Although there are no absolute contra-indications to the use of paraffin gauze dressing , if the dressing is placed upon a heavily exuding wound its semi-occlusive nature may cause tissue maceration by preventing the free movement of exudates away from the surface of the wound . This is less likely to occur than if a dressing bearing the higher loading of paraffin were to be used .
Method of use :
Paraffin gauze dressing is applied directly to the surface of the wound and covered with an absorbent pad held in place with tape or a bandage , as appropriate .
Frequency of Change :
The frequency of dressings changes will depend entirely upon the nature of the wound . If paraffin gauze dressing is left in position for prolonged periods of time , it can become adherent and cause tissue damage upon removal .

Pack Shot paraffin gauze is presented individually wrapped in a paper / Aluminum pouch , sterilized by irradiation .
Storage :
Paraffin gauze dressing should be stored in a cool place
