Risers can cure a flat buffet. Buffet risers lift food off of the table, giving height to our buffets while making food look as appetizing as possible. Besides aesthetics, risers offer functional benefits as well:
They keep decorative items like flower petals from falling into the food.
They make food easier for customers to reach.
How to design buffets with risers?
1. Mix risers of different heights.
Use more than one size of riser to add contrast to your buffet. Vertical contrast makes your display look exciting while inviting customers to explore with their eyes. Include at least two different sizes of risers and place some food flat on the table for a three layered look.
2. Layer items from front to back.
Create your buffet with a foreground and background, placing some risers in front of others. This adds additional depth to your buffet while maximizing the use of table space.
If your display is set against a wall, keep the largest risers back towards the wall so they won’t block views of the other items. For displays in the center of the room, build up towards the center so food is visible no matter what directions customers approach from.
3. When grouping items together, use odd numbers.
Because odd numbered groups can’t be halved easily, we find an intriguing imbalance in groups of three or five. Therefore, group risers or food items into odd numbered clusters. This rule of thumb applies to more than just risers. Plating, centerpiece design, and more can be improved with the “rule of odds.”
4. Coordinate styles.
The style of risers should compliment the theme of your buffet or the decor of your location. For a natural look, you might try wood risers and shelves. Or for something modern, try the stainless steel risers with tempered glass.
