INTRODUCTION

Ephedra is simply a plant or herb. In fact, at one time it was the best-selling weight loss herb in the US. The government estimated that nearly 10 million people throughout the country had tried some type of ephedra supplement. Of course, the government also took notice of the fact that there was poor regulation over the industry at the time and very little real knowledge about how to safely use these products. Dieters, body builders, and other weight lifters were taking huge amounts of these supplements.

 

USES

1) It is stomachic, alterative and diuretic. Alkaloid called "Ephedrine" which helps in controlling asthma. It is widely used for acute muscular and bronchial asthma. It is also used as a headache reliever. The plant also has antiviral effects, particularly against influenza. A decoction of the stems and roots is used to treat rheumatism and syphilis.

2) This plant is used in treatment of respiratory ailments like mild
bronchospasms, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, coryza or
commoncold.
3) This plant is an ancient discovery of siddhars and they used it
In extraction of somarasam which is considered to be an
amrutham of life, and used in somayagam.
4) The exact use of this plant is unknown but ancestors reveal that
this plant is a kayakarpam and even could be used for
awakening of kundalini during meditation. Ephedra Vulgaris extract (somlata)
