About Pashmina

                      "Pashmina" is the softest, exotically delicate, weightless and the finest natural insulating fiber of the world. It is extracted from the inner coats of the hardy little mountain goats (capra hircus) locally called "Chyangra", which live at the altitude above 3000 mtrs in the Himalayas. Such wonderful and gossamer properties of "Pashmina" has popularized it as the "Diamond Fibre". The outer layer fibres of "Chyangra" are discarded as they are comparatively thicker & coarser. Thus only the inner layer fibres measuring under 16.5 microns are specified for use as "Pashmina". These extraordinary qualities of Pashmina fibres have encouraged weavers to produce various types of wraps for warmness.

The Fur combing process is performed every spring without harming the goats. Pashmina fibres thus obtained are spun into thin yarn which is woven to make different types of pashmina products like blankets, shawls, stoles, scarves as well as pullovers, cardigans, etc. This exquisite craftsmanship of Nepalese weavers has established "Nepalese Pashmina" worldwide as the most precious possession. 

In ancient times "Pashmina" was used in unblended form but later combinations with silk, cotton etc., came in practice. In due course of time and after long years of experience and experiments, Pashmina yarn and silk yarn were combined to get better fibre-strength, durability, colour-pleasantness and finish which has now become most popular all over world and recognized as "Nepalese Pashmina".

History of Pashmina
In Nepal also it has been traced back to the prehistoric times (or the time of Mahabharat). People living in the high mountains discovered the unique and wonderful properties of "Pashmina".

They developed a very delicate and skillful pashmina extraction method where the goats are not harmed and more fibres can be collected regularly every spring from the same goat for many years. They also learned to spun the fibers into fine yarn and then weave it to get an extraordinarily soft and warm fabric. This exquisite art of weaving was passed on from one generation to another and to the present times as well. The popularity of Pashmina encouraged entrepreneurs for product diversification and as such various kinds of pashmina products like shawls, stoles, blanket, scarves, sweaters, cardigans etc. are developed and marketed. Nepal is famous for hand woven Pashmina products all over the world.

Shaded

Various colored shades are created either by dying yarn itself and then weave or by the process of multi stage dying on the fabric creating desire shades. Similarly different colors shades on either sides of the fabric are also created.

Embroidery

Embroidery is the art of decorating fabrics with patterns sewn by threads of various colors, thus, decorating them into different patterns. With the combination of different colors of threads different motifs, like plants and flowers, animals and birds, shapes and figures etc. are crafted.

Jacquard

Various types of jacquard patterns are created by using advanced weaving technique/ procedure, which gives vary rich look to the fabric.

Printed

Several types of hand printings are done on pashmina products from artists' brush painting and block-printing to modern types of screen printings are done. The tiger-skin, zebra skin, plant and flowers etc are some of the most popular printing styles used.

Plain

The fabrics are woven into only one solid color. They may be in any desired color as per buyer's choice. Maximum quantities of products are exported in plain single color.

Pashmina shawl

Pashmina shawls are the most exportable products of Nepal. It is loosely worn over the shoulders, upper body and arms. Generally it is used by female/ladies in parties and functions, outings in winter season where as western female use it any time as fashion. Shawls are available in different shapes, sizes, colors statement, types such as shaded, embroidery, jacquard, printed, plain etc. They are woven by either single ply or double ply yarn. The shawls are available in different sizes. The standard size is 36 x 80 inches. 

Pashmina stole

Pashmina stole is a smaller form of the shawl. Nepal is renowned all over the world for its finely woven pashmina stoles. Among pashmina products, stoles are the highest exportable items. Stoles are mostly used by younger generation without wrapping. It covers the shoulders and falls down in front of the body. Stoles are woven in different sizes like large size: 28"x100", 28"x78", 28"x72" and 26"x72" small size: 22"x72", 20"x72" and 28"x60". It is available in single or double ply. The weight ranges from 125-300 grams depending on its size and ply. It has color variation. 

Pashmina Scarf

A scarf is a piece of fabric worn around neck for warmth. Nepal is well known for its finely woven pashmina scarves. It is one of the most exportable products. Basically, females use it. The sizes are 12"x 60", 12"x 78", 16"x78" 18"x72"and 18"x 80", but the standard size 12x60 inches. It has single or double ply. The weight varies from 120-200 grams according its size and ply. It is available into different categories and colors. 

Pashmina muffler

Nepal is very well known for its finely woven pashmina muffler. It is one of the most exportable products. Basically any ages of ladies are used it in large size. The people hang it from neck up to bellow knee. The westerns use it in any size. They match the color of muffler with their dress. They take muffler as fashion. The sizes are - Big size: 18"x72, 18"x80" and 18"x100", Medium size: 14"x60", 14"x72", 16"x72" and 16"x65", Mini size: 12"x72" and 12"x100". It is woven in single or double ply. Its weight ranges from 125-200 grams.

Pashmina Blanket

Pashmina blanket is also Nepal's one of the most exportable products. Pashmina blanket is an indigenous and unique product of Nepal. It covers the whole body. People use it in their household purpose. The blanket is of 2 types - they are adult and baby blanket. Generally baby blanket is popular among people because of its softness and lightness. The sizes of adult blanket are 52"x 80" or40"x60" while the size of baby blanket is 36"x40". The blanket is available in single or double ply. The weight for adult blanket ranges from 600-1000 grams where as the average weight of baby blanket is 140 grams. The patterns and colors are available as per the desire of the customers. 

Pashmina Sweater/Cardigans

A sweater is the garment, which covers the human body. It is typically to be worn over a shirt, blouse, T-shirt or other tops and as such they are called pullovers also. Sweaters are knitted in different sizes and shapes. People use them as both formal and informal dress. The sizes are small (S), medium (M), large (L) and extra large (XL) etc.
Sweaters are knitted in either front-open or front closed forms and in full sleeve, half sleeve, three-quarter sleeve or sleeve less designs. Similarly different neck-cuts like V-shape, round- shape, turtle-neck shape etc, are commonly preferred. Several patterns and colors are available as per the requirement of the customers. Sweaters, Cardigans, etc, are knitted in single or double ply yarns.
